Many Components Of Microphones

By Kevin Wray

Microphones from the sensible standpoint are a tool that enables us to communicate or record our speech or any kind of sound waves for example. Microphones are able to capture the pressure difference created in mid-air through a diaphragm which is one of the important components of the microphone. Modern microphones have different parts on them in comparison to the classic microphone. The thing which is prevalent in all the microphone units would be the diaphragm. Diaphragm is made up of aluminum metal or paper.

Diaphragm found in the microphones has a tendency to vibrate if acoustical sounds such as sound waves hit them. Once they vibrate, they cause other parts of the microphone to vibrate whereby this mechanical sound waves are converted into electrical audio waves. Microphones have grown to be an important part of our daily life. Microphone are available in telephones, radio transmitters, tape recorder, addressing systems and in many more places. In this post we will go over in detail about the different types of microphone. There are basically ten different kinds of microphone.

There are basically 10 different types of microphone. The ten different types are crystal microphone, cardioid microphone, condenser microphone, laser microphone, ribbon microphone, electret microphone, dynamic microphone, fiber optic microphone, carbon microphone and liquid microphone.

With regards to crystal microphone, with the name it's very clear that this diaphragm is attached to a crystal. Therefore when the diaphragm vibrates, signals will likely be created by the crystal.

Cardioid microphone is used by those who wish to record sound waves equally in the side ends and front ends of the microphone. Sound waves which happen right behind the microphone won't be captured by cardioid microphone. Hence cardioid microphone is used in public performances and live concerts since they do not capture any audience noise.

Condenser microphone is fitted with a capacitor and they require a battery to generate voltage. In the case of a ribbon microphone, thin aluminum ribbon is placed in the magnetic field. Ribbon microphone has the ability to capture sound from both the sides of the microphone. Electret microphone is the cheapest of all the types. They are used by many people all around the world. Due to their simplicity they are used in hand phones and computers.

This is one of the modern day innovations in the microphone market. Carbon microphone is no longer in practice. Carbon dusts are used attached to the diaphragm. Thus if vibration occurs, carbon dust is compressed leading to change in the present waves. Liquid microphone is the oldest microphone. In liquid microphone, metal cup shall be attached to diaphragm. A needle shall be connected with the metal cup and diaphragm. The steel cup contains a mixture of sulfuric acid and water. The needle will go in the water when vibration happens.
