Basics About Recording Studio Software

By Jasmine Cummings

Recording studio software is a tool used in the production process within studios. Generally, the equipment and computer software used in these settings are expected to vary. Many times this is relative to the musicians being recorded and the engineer handling the production.

The general set up of these facilities involves separate rooms. These include the control room, space where music is recorded and machine room. The area where the music is played and recorded is designed to achieve the best acoustic properties. These facilities and the equipment within them may also be utilized for tracking voice-overs for film, television, advertisements and foley, or to record musical soundtracks.

There are many different types of equipment utilized in these facilities. Some examples: microphones, keyboard, acoustic drum kit, mixing console, reference monitors and multitrack recorder. Additional equipment may involve music workstations, digital audio workstations, on-air indicators and outboard effects.

The digital workstations are more common nowadays. These serve an important role in the complete process, taking over synthesizers, recorders, mixing consoles, samples and other sound effects items. Many computers used for this purpose are loaded with a DAW, or Digital Audio Workstation. There are various audio programs available, some of the most popular include Apple Logic Pro, Nuendo, Pro Tools, MOTU Digital Performer, Cubase, Pro Tools and more.

Apple Macintosh is predominately employed for this kind of professional work. But there is software available for Linux and Microsoft Windows as well. Most home and commercial set ups utilize multitrack audio programs that is PC based.

In recent years, technology has made huge leaps and so have record studios. These facilities are where musicians and other people within the entertainment and arts fields go to get high-quality recorded works. It may depend on the material being tracked and the engineer doing the work, but most of these studios apply recording studio software. Furthermore, the used of digital audio workstations is extremely common when it comes to producing, editing and recording.
