Boarding School Life Versus Day Schooling

By Lakisha Barton

There are many different options that are available to parent as far as the education of their children is concerned. This has over the years changed with parents in past years having a somewhat easier decision as regards the selection of their institution of choice. One of these choices is between having their children as day scholars and having them as part of boarding school life.

The later institution usually has students within the confines of the institution all day round for the entire period of the term. There are different types of these institutions with each one of them having a distinguishing factor that sets it apart from the rest. There are also various advantages that parents seek to attain by having their children at these institutions.

To begin with the most common type of these facilities so to say are the college prep type of institutions that have been around for a long time. These can probably be credited with being the longest standing of these types of institutions as they have survived for a long time. They are mostly dedicated to preparing students for the purposes of joining certain colleges.

The next category are the ones that are known as academic recover or most commonly as academic catch up which are meant for students who may have the ability of intelligence. These though will cater to those who may not be able to do as well in conventional institutions of learning. Usually these institutions are able to prepare them for either college or non college related careers.

There are the strictly structured types of these institutions that are meant for those with whom this type of structure would work to make them better. These include such institutions as military ones that have certain structured approaches to education and lifestyle. One also has religious ones that are usually associated with certain religious denominations or churches.

One among the advantages that students stand to gain by being part of these institutions includes a better quality of education provided by a couple of factors. The number of students to a teacher is lesser which means that a teacher can offer more time to the individual needs of a single student. There is also the fact that the qualifications that the teachers in these institutions have is of a greater degree than that one may find elsewhere.

The next advantage is that these institutions are well equipped when it comes to facilities for a number of reasons. This usually has meant that students in these institutions are able to explore their extracurricular activities better than those in the conventional institutions. This is especially beneficial for parents who have children gifted in these activities.

There is also the fact that studies have shown that students in these institutions have better social skills growth which may be credited to two things. On the one hand is better peer to peer interaction and on the other there is better teacher to student interactions which builds these skills. Boarding school life is one that should be enjoyed and treasured as it lasts and every moment of it savored.
